The Russian high-class technician Artemi Panarin was “rested” by the New York Rangers for the last few games, and now the cooperation between the two parties has ended. The “breadman” is now storming California.
At 34, Panarin is now playing for his fourth team in the NHL. He made his debut for the Chicago Blackhawks in 2015/16. After two years, he was hired by the Columbus Blue Jackets, where he also played two seasons. The winger has been wearing the New York Rangers jersey since 2019 and also delivered his best NHL season in points.
In 2023/24 he had a strong 49 goals and 120 points – at that time he landed in fourth place in the overall NHL ranking behind compatriot Nikita Kucherov (144), Nathan MacKinnon (140) and Connor McDavid (132).
Panarin had the last word
But in terms of sport, things didn’t really go according to plan for the Rangers last season or this year. Management refrained from extending the contract, so a trade came into focus. Since Panarin had a so-called “no move clause,” he had full say regarding his new employer. Apparently he just wanted to give up this “nmc” for the Los Angeles Kings.
And that’s exactly where he ended up. The Californians transferred two draft picks (3rd 2026, 4th 2028) as well as youngster Liam Greentree to the “big apple”. Panarin also signed a contract extension with the Kings shortly afterwards. He will continue to play for the Kings until the end of the 2027/28 season. With 927 points in 804 games, Panarin is already the seventh best Russian scorer in NHL history. Ahead of him are Alexei Kovalev, Alex Mogilny, Nikita Kucherov, Sergei Federov, Evgeni Malkin and of course Alex Ovechkin.
