NHL video: Only second crack ever: Alex Ovechkin breaks an incredible mark!

Russian exceptional talent Alexander Ovechkin made history again last night with another goal. He was only the second crack to break the 1,000 mark.

Ovechkin has been storming in the best league in the world since 2005; he spent his career exclusively with the Washington Capitals. The striker played 1,562 games this season and scored 923 goals. If you add the 77 goals in the playoffs, then after the goal against the Colorado Avalanche he is now at exactly 1,000 direct hits.

Only one player in the long history of the NHL has achieved this feat, namely Wayne Gretzky. In his long career, the Canadian managed 1,016 goals and played a total of 1,695 games (regular season + playoffs). Ovechkin currently has 1,723 appearances.

It remains to be seen whether “Ovi” will break Gretzky’s record. The legendary #8’s contract expires at the end of the season and Ovechkin has emphasized several times that he wants to end his active career at home, with Dynamo Moscow.
