For the three nations mentioned, the Germany Cup is already an initial assessment of the position for the Olympic ice hockey tournament next February. The ÖEHV selection, which promptly took second place in its premiere participation in 2022, wants to sell itself once again.
Head coach Roger Bader has nominated a total of 25 men, 3 goalkeepers, 9 defenders and 13 strikers and is relying on a lot of World Cup experience. Together they have 1,416 international matches on the ice and also have a debutant in their luggage, Paul Sintschnig.
The 16-year-old from EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV, who has already scored four goals in the win2day ICE Hockey League, has played his way into the display over the past few weeks. On September 26th, Sintschnig scored a brace in VSV’s 8-3 victory over Steinbach Black Wings Linz. And he did so at the age of 16 years, 6 months and 16 days, making him the youngest double packer in ICE history. The reward is the first call-up to the senior national team.
Head coach Roger Bader: “It’s a great honor for us to be able to take part in the Germany Cup for the fourth time in a row. This shows that we are an asset to the tournament, and we want to prove that again on the ice this year. We face three strong nations, all of which are already looking towards the Olympic Games. We are therefore expecting three top-ranked opponents and we are also fielding a strong team with many players who already have World Cup experience.”
