It has been known for weeks that Peter Hochkofler will be missing from the Eisbullen Salzburg for a longer period of time this season. The final diagnosis has now been made: the 31-year-old striker suffered a stroke in mid-January and will be out for an indefinite period.
On January 16th, Hochkofler collapsed in the dressing room shortly after warming up before the away game in Villach. Initially, there was talk of an extreme migraine attack, and even immediate initial treatment in a Villach hospital did not provide any clarity. Only further investigations in Salzburg finally provided certainty.
“Of course it’s intense. But now I’m feeling really good again,” the South Tyrolean native explained to the “Krone”. However, a comeback on the ice is currently not an issue. Physical stress is only possible to a very limited extent, sessions on the ice are excluded.
Nevertheless, Hochkofler is still an integral part of the team. The fan favorite regularly attends training sessions and games and even supports the team off the ice as a kit manager. “Physically, I’m not really allowed to do anything at the moment. Maybe one or two sessions in the gym. The whole thing just needs time to heal. However, I definitely want to be with the team – that’s good for me,” said the right-handed shooter.
