As in the first meeting of the current season, VSV has to admit defeat to Olimpija Ljubljana this time too. However, in contrast to the first game (2:7), the duel was extremely close. The Eagles left the ice today as 2:3 losers.
Since the previous league leaders HC Falkensteiner Pustertal did not play on Friday, Olimpija Ljubljana had the chance to take the lead with a win. After a goalless first third, however, the hosts from Villach in the person of Kevin Hancock came first. Then the Slovenians stepped up a gear and scored three goals within eight minutes: Nicolai Meyer, Žiga Mehle and Žiga Pance were responsible for the turnaround. Hancock brought his Eagles closer with his second goal of the evening in the final period, but it was no longer enough for extra time despite a period of pressure in the final phase.
