After the successful start into the basic round of the new season with the 4: 3 success in Bozen, the EC Red Bull Salzburg expects the EC-KAC in the Eisarena Salzburg (4:30 p.m., Ladies Night, ORF1) in the Win2day Ice Hockey League home game on Sunday.
It is the excited new edition of last year’s final series, and the KAC also started the new championship season yesterday with a sense of achievement.
Starting position
These two teams do not have many secrets in front of each other. You know each other from countless encounters in the past, both teams have contested the final series in the last two seasons (each won the Red Bulls). For the new season, both teams were only changed in the squad, so that the core of the team has also been preserved on both sides in the current season. So you know each other and the eternal duel will find its exciting sequel on Sunday, which is broadcast by the ORF1 in the first TV Live game of the new season.
Both teams with flying colors also mastered the start of the new season. The KAC clearly won 4-0 against Székesfehérvár at home and hardly let the Hungarians in their own house develop. The Red Bulls prevailed 4: 3 in Bolzano against HCB South Tyrol Alperia in a sometimes emotional game and were the better team over long distances.
See old companions again on the coaching bench
It will certainly be behind the gang emotionally, because with Manny Viveiros (59) the Red Bulls have had a new head coach since this summer, which until 2014 has successfully determined the fortunes of the Klagenfurter as a player, then as a coach for many years. On the other hand, Kirk Furey swings the trainer scepter. The 49-year-old Canadian played from 2007 to 2015 as a defender in Klagenfurt under the wing of Viveiros. He has been a head coach of the Klagenfurt professional team for two years and now meets his former coach again after a long time.
Statement Lukas Schreier
“Yesterday in Bolzano it was a good game, we were one step ahead of the South Tyroleans. It was a good start in many phases. Now we’re going against the KAC and we always expect a hard duel. We would also like to get the first three points at home, but know that it is particularly difficult against Klagenfurt. I also expect a hot game at the beginning of the season, which we are looking forward to.”
