The
Underland Cavaliers
set the course for the coming season early on and made their most important personnel decision:
Vesa Petäjä takes over the position of head coach. The 40-year-old Finn succeeds Tuomo Harjula and is expected to bring a breath of fresh air to the team from South Tyrol, as “Sportnews” reports.
From young coach to professional trainer
Petäjä can look back on an interesting development. He ended his active career as a goalkeeper at the age of 19 before switching to coaching at an early age. He worked in the youth sector for over a decade, especially with the
Lahti Pelicanswhere he developed a reputation as a developer of young talent.
The step into the professional sector followed in 2019: he gained experience as a head coach for the first time at the Finnish second division club Peliitat. He then went to Finland’s top division, where he worked as an assistant coach until 2025
TPS Turku was active.
Focus on development and structure
By signing Petäjä, the Cavaliers are consciously relying on a coach with a clear philosophy. The Finn stands for structured game systems, discipline and a consistent way of working. His strength in promoting young talent in particular fits with the club’s strategic direction.
