The
Graz 99ers set a strong example for the future: strikers
Paul Huber has extended his contract early – until 2029. In doing so, the club is retaining one of its most important top performers in the long term and underlining its confidence in the 25-year-old’s development – this is what the “Kleine Zeitung” reports.
“The security of being able to stay in Graz and build something means a lot to me,” explains Huber to the “Kleine Zeitung”. At the same time, he sees the extension as confirmation of his previous path and his growing role in the team.
From talent to leader
Since his return to Graz, Huber has made a significant leap in development. Once trained in Salzburg and a three-time champion there, he has now matured into a central player at the 99ers.
In addition to his offensive qualities, he particularly emphasizes his personal development: “I have made huge steps – not only as a scorer, but also as a personality and leader.” This development did not go unnoticed by the sports director.
Key role in the “Austrian core”
For sports director
Philip Pinter Huber was a dream player from the start. He sees him as a supporting pillar of the team and an important part of the Austrian core within the team. “He has an absolutely key role and brings exactly the values that we want to see in the team,” said Pinter.
Despite the long-term commitment, one door remains open: If the NHL came knocking, they wouldn’t put any obstacles in Huber’s way.
Emotional connection to home
For Huber, Graz is more than just an employer. Even as a child, he dreamed of playing for his hometown club – and one day becoming champions. “A title with Graz would be something completely different emotionally,” he says, referring to the upcoming final series.
Focus on the big goal
Because in terms of sport, everything is currently focused on the ICEHL final. There the 99ers meet a strong Pustertal team. Huber expects an intense series: “They play hard and structured, but we will get our chances.”
