Three match penalties: Are the Graz and Salzburg cracks threatened with repercussions?

The game between the Graz 99ers and Red Bull Salzburg was an intense affair not only in terms of sport, but above all in terms of discipline. A total of three game-time disciplinary penalties characterized the game and caused a lot of discussion. These match penalties could have repercussions in front of the league senate.

Josh Currie started in the first third. The Canadian checked Salzburg defender Dennis Robertson on the side of the head. Robertson briefly lost his bearings and had to be supported off the ice. Currie was immediately given a game misconduct penalty and a ban is considered very likely.

The situation escalated again in the final third. Florian Baltram put Salzburg on the road to victory with his goal to make it 3-2, but shortly afterwards he was checked hard on the open ice by Marcus Vela coming from the Graz bench. Vela also had to take a shower early.

Tyler Lewington provided additional explosiveness. The Salzburg player also received a match penalty and provoked the Graz fans with obscene gestures as they left the ice. Here too, there is a risk of disciplinary consequences.

Overall, the many tough actions left a bitter aftertaste in a game that had play-off character at times, but was ultimately overshadowed by excessive toughness.
