AlpsHL preview: Full round on today’s Epiphany!

The Alps Hockey League goes into the next round on Epiphany Day. Among other things, there will be a duel between table leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors and Rittner Buam SkyAlps, while defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären will face SG Cortina Hafro.

The Red Bull Hockey Juniors moved to the top of the table on Sunday thanks to a narrow 4-3 home win against Kitzbühel. On Tuesday they will host the sixth-placed Rittner Buam SkyAlps, who are already eleven points behind the Juniors, but are level on points with the fifth-placed Kitzbühel. On Sunday, the Buam lost 1:2 at home in the derby against Meran, but narrowly won the first two duels of the season against the Juniors (3:2/OT, 4:3).

Zell am See welcomes Cortina in crisis

Tenth-placed SG Cortina Hafro has not won any of its last three games and is already eleven points behind the top five. On Sunday they lost 3:4 to bottom team Unterland. The EK Die Zeller Eisbären won 4-2 at home against the EC Bregenzerwald. It was one of three wins from the last five games for the third-placed team, who won the first two duels of the season against Cortina 4-2 and 3-1.

Kitzbühel is fighting for important top 5 points

With 49 points, Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel is currently tied with sixth-placed Ritten in the important fifth place in the table. Opponent HC Meran/o Pircher is eleventh and is already 14 points behind a Master Round place. The South Tyroleans recently celebrated a surprising 2-1 away win in the derby near Ritten, while Kitzbühel narrowly lost 3-4 to leaders Salzburg. For the Tyroleans it was the first defeat after two wins in a row, while Meran was able to end a two-game losing streak. In a direct comparison, Kitzbühel has won two wins this season so far (5:4, 8:3).

Asiago aims for sixth win in a row

With five wins in a row, HC Migross Asiago is currently the strongest team in the league. The Italians improved to fourth place in the table, but are only two points ahead of sixth place. On Tuesday they will be visiting bottom team Hockey Unterland Cavaliers, who ended their five-game losing streak with a 4-3 win against Cortina on Sunday. Unterland hasn’t had a chance against Asiago so far this season and lost 4-1 twice.

Duel for seventh place: Bregenzerwald against Vipiteno

EC Bregenzerwald, eighth in the table, welcomes seventh-placed Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Only one point separates both teams; In addition, the top five are still within reach, only five (WSV) or six points (ECB) behind. The current form clearly speaks in favor of the Broncos, who have won four of the last five games, while Bregenzerwald have only been able to win one of the last five matches. However, the Vorarlbergers have celebrated two wins this season against Vipiteno (5:4/OT, 3:1).
