ICEHL preview: The top game live on ORF Sport+!

On Friday, EC Red Bull Salzburg will be playing against the Steinbach Black Wings Linz in a live game on ORF Sport+. While two top teams from the win2day ICE Hockey League meet in Ljubljana against Pustertal, league leaders EC-KAC welcome the Pioneers Vorarlberg. Graz and Villach are also dueling with the two Hungarian clubs.

On Saturday the Vienna Capitals start their road trip with HCB Südtirol Alperia, who signed a new goalie in Christopher Gibson.

EC-KAC – Pioneers Vorarlberg
The KAC took the lead in the table again with a 6:3 away win in Fehérvár and was particularly impressive in the even-strength game (goal difference +23). The current top scorer is Mathias From, who scored points in twelve games in a row. The Pioneers arrive in twelfth place in the table after the clear 7-0 defeat in Salzburg. Although they celebrated two wins in a row for the first time before the league break, they continue to struggle against top teams (only 5 out of 39 possible points). The statistics speak clearly for Klagenfurt: In 20 encounters since 2022, there have been 14 victories for the red jackets – most recently seven in a row with a total score of 31:12. The KAC also clearly won the last duel on November 28th with 6:2.

Olimpija Ljubljana – HC Falkensteiner Pustertal
Ljubljana returned successfully from the league break with a shootout win in Graz. New signing Jan Drozg scored his first goal for the club before top scorer Nicolai Meyer equalized shortly before the end. Pustertal ended its series of defeats with a clear home win over Innsbruck. In the table, the two teams are only separated by three points – Olimpija is in second place, Bruneck in fourth place. The HCP has recently lost six away games in a row. In each of the previous season duels, the home team prevailed.

Moser Medical Graz99ers – Hydro Fehérvár AV19
The 99ers’ winning streak ended on Wednesday with a shootout defeat in Ljubljana. Fehérvár had to admit defeat to the KAC. While the Graz team are one of the best teams in the league away from home, they have already suffered six defeats in 13 games this season at the Merkur Ice Stadium. The Styrians want to build on their spectacular 9-4 home win from October against Fehérvár. However, Ted Dent’s team won the last duel in Hungary.

Steinbach Black Wings Linz – EC Red Bull Salzburg
After the clear home win against Feldkirch, EC Red Bull Salzburg travels to Linz with a tailwind and wants to continue its series of three successes. The Black Wings have been in inconsistent form – wins and defeats have alternated regularly in the last ten games. The Upper Austrians are dangerous offensively (88 goals, 5th place), but vulnerable defensively (95 goals conceded, 11th place). With only 62 goals conceded, Salzburg has the second best defense in the league behind Graz. The game once again promises emotion and intensity: In the first comparison of the season in Linz, the Black Wings won 3-2 after extra time, and almost a month ago the champions celebrated a confident 4-0 home win.

EC iDM heat pumps VSV – FTC-Telekom
After a week’s break, VSV returns to everyday league life. The gap to sixth place is currently five points, but Villach has played two fewer games than the Red Bulls. Budapest also left the ice as losers twice recently; the league newcomer had to narrowly admit defeat in Vienna on Wednesday. The Carinthians won the first two duels of the season.

HCB Südtirol Alperia – Vienna Capitals
On Saturday the Vienna Capitals start their South Tyrol road trip, which they continue on Sunday in Bruneck. The home win over Budapest brought the Viennese closer to the top 10 again. Bozen celebrated a successful debut under new coach Doug Shedden and defeated Linz 7:4. The home team won each of the two duels of the season so far.
