In the last two days, the National Hockey League has been issued to young defenders with millions of times, which have been bound to their clubs in the long term.
At the age of 22, New Jersey Devil’s defender Luke Hughes already has 155 NHL games in her legs and many will be added in the coming years. The day before yesterday the brother of Jack and Vancouver Defender Quinn Hughes was tied to the Devils for seven years. For this, the American, who went 4 in the draft in 2021 in 2021 and was able to collect 91 points so far, received nine million a year. It remains to be seen whether Quinn will also change in the Garden State in a few years. The increasing cap and the cap management of the Devils could make a commitment of the exceptionally realistic.
The exact same amount as Luke Hughes will also collect Anaheim Duck’s Cornerstone Defender Jackson Lacombe in the future. The 2nd Rounder 2019 made a previously strong development and blend into one of the go-to-guys on the defensive of the Ducks. In the past season he came up with 14 goals and 43 points. Overall, he can look back on the experience of 148 NHL season games. His contract goes over eight years, starts with the 2026/27 season and ends in 2034.
It is quite striking that such signings have been piling up in recent months. Teams no longer pay primarily after the delivered performance but from perspective and potential. It is only logical that some franchises are somewhat looser due to the rising caps. Especially teams that have been in the renovation for years and accordingly have a lot of capspace available.
