The Steinbach Black Wings Linz bring the next league leaders to their knees and win 4-2 against Laibach. But there was also a moment of shock.
After two power play goals gave them a deserved lead, the Dragons ensured an emotional final section. There, the Linz team secured their seventh home win in a row in front of a season-record crowd. After the end of the game there was a good scuffle, but that couldn’t dampen the Black Wings’ joy.
Joy in the Linz camp
Striker Julian Pusnik told the Oberösterreichische Nachrichten after the game: “Great! We’re really enjoying ourselves, we had a lot planned. You can only win through hard work.” Coach Phil Lukas was also happy: “It was an intense, emotional evening. We are happy with how it went. Our special teams were good, we were able to take advantage of our opponent’s penalties. We knew about the quality that Ljubljana has. This is a team with good depth. We were decimated, but never let go. It was a great team performance.”
Puck flight as a negative highlight
The only negative highlight was a puck flying into the stands, which hit a fan and caused a moment of shock. The fan had to be taken to hospital with a laceration.
