At the most recent partner evening at HC Innsbruck, Günther Hanschitz made people sit up and take notice with a surprising announcement. The long-time general manager stated that he would no longer continue in his position after the end of the current term of office.
Hanschitz explained his decision openly and objectively. After decades at the top, it is time to make room for new ideas and approaches. “You can’t do that until St. Nicholas Day,” said the 66-year-old, who co-founded HC Innsbruck in 1994.
No retreat from retreat
Hanschitz himself doesn’t believe in a change of heart. The future of the club should be placed in the hands of a younger generation. This means that it is clear: the Tyrolean club needs a new CEO by the end of 2027 at the latest. With his retirement, a formative era for the Sharks – marked by many sporting highs, but also challenging phases.
