After a turbulent season, VSV still qualified for the quarter-finals. After a strong final spurt, the Villach team prevailed against Linz in the pre-play-offs and can continue to dream of the title.
Sports director Herbert Hohenberger was relieved after the promotion. He admitted that things weren’t always quiet off the ice over the course of the season. “The turbulence in the club certainly wasn’t helpful,” Hohenberger told the “Kronen Zeitung” looking back. In the last few weeks, however, more stability has returned, which has allowed the coaching staff and team to work more concentratedly.
The defense in particular has been very stable recently. With a disciplined style of play and a strong goalkeeper Joe Cannata, the Villach team managed to concede only a few goals in the last few games. This development gives the club hope that they can also play a good role in the quarter-finals.
