EC Red Bull Salzburg ends the week in the win2day ICE Hockey League this Sunday with the away game against EC-KAC (5:30 p.m., ORF Sport+).
The reigning champions have experienced an upswing again in the last three games (including the CHL) and now want to bring their good performance to the ice in Klagenfurt. It is also the first return of head coach Manny Viveiros to his former place of work.
Initial situation
When the Red Bulls play third in Klagenfurt today as sixth in the table, it won’t be the top game in the league, but it will definitely be a hit. Both teams have not yet consistently fulfilled their potential and have an eventful past together, such as the final series last season, which the Red Bulls won in four games. The first meeting this season also went to the Red Bulls 4-1 in Salzburg at the beginning of September. But a lot has happened in the meantime. While the KAC has steadily worked its way up to third place in the table in the last few rounds after a difficult start, the Red Bulls recently went through a trough that they should have left with the last three (home) wins in a row – against Székesfehérvár, Ingolstadt (CHL) and yesterday against Linz. Excitement is guaranteed once again: both teams meet in a strong phase and want to win the next chapter in the eternally young duel.
Manny Viveiros’ journey into the past
After his career as a player (2000 to 2007), Manny Viveiros took over the position of head coach in Klagenfurt in his last season as a defender, in which he only played seven games. In 2012 he was replaced by Christian Weber, but continued as KAC manager until 2014. Eleven years later, the 59-year-old Canadian is now returning for the first time to his old place of work, which was his sporting and professional home for 14 years, as head coach of EC Red Bull Salzburg.
Manny Viveiro’s statement
“The KAC always has a good team. Very well structured, a lot of talent in the ranks and a good coach Kirk Furey, who I know well from my time at the KAC. If we can deliver our best performance, similar to yesterday against Linz, we have a chance in Klagenfurt. I’m looking forward to a good game and the good atmosphere in Klagenfurt.”
