HC Falkensteiner Pustertal is once again active on the transfer market and is strengthening its back line with a Swedish defender. Adam Almquis (34) is no stranger to European ice hockey, the HCP can rely on his years of international experience.
Almquist comes from Jonköpping and not only became a professional ice hockey player for his hometown club “HV71”, but also became champions there in 2010 and 2017. As a top player in the Swedish league, with international matches at the junior level, he initially went overseas. There were 166 AHL matches and 2 NHL appearances for Detroit before returning to the top European leagues.
In 10 years, the left-shooter played in the Russian KHL (Cherepovets, Vladivostok, Minsk, Chelyabinsk), Swiss NL (Bern, Zug), Swedish SHL (HV71, Frölunda) and most recently with Red Bull Munich (2023/24) and the Kölner Haien (2024/25) in the DEL.
Worth mentioning: Almquist has already won 4 championship titles (Grand Rapid/AHL, Bern/NL, HV71 and Frölunda/SHL), has 6 seasons in the Champions Hockey League and played in 20 games for the “Tre Kronor” team.
Fun fact: Almquist played on the same team with future opponent Jan Mursak (KAC) no less than three times (always in different clubs and countries): Grand Rapid (AHL), Frölunda (SHL), Bern (NL). Of course, the year with Jon Blum at Red Bull Munich stands out.
The Swede is described as a solid two-way defender who, with his good overview of the game, can also play a special role in the power play.
Adam Almquist is expected in Bruneck this Wednesday and will give the HCP’s back team the necessary depth in a strenuous Olympic season. The father comes to South Tyrol without his family and receives jersey number 5 at HC Falkensteiner Pustertal.
Patrick Bona, sports director HC Falkensteiner Pustertal: “Adam is a solid two-way defender with excellent transition play. By signing him, we will give our defense the depth it needs due to the high load. I am sure that Adam will enrich our team with his experience in the top European leagues.”
Adam Almquist: “I’m very proud to have the opportunity to play for a top ICEHL team like HC Falkensteiner Pustertal. I’m looking forward to working with the players and everyone who works for and around the club. My goal is to have as much success as possible together with the team. I can’t wait to play in front of the Puschtra fans and get to know everyone!”
