Olympia26: Slovakia celebrates group victory – Germany and Italy fail!

Host Italy suffered a bitter 11-0 defeat against Finland. Germany narrowly lost to Latvia and the USA had problems, but still defeated Denmark. Slovakia wins the group despite losing to Sweden.

Slovakia pulled off a surprise at the Olympics, winning Group B despite a 5-3 defeat to Sweden. The decisive factor was the better goal difference in the internal table, which meant that the Slovaks secured first place ahead of Finland and Sweden and a guaranteed place in the quarter-finals. With a clear 11-0 win against hosts Italy, Finland kept its chance of advancing directly as the best runner-up in the group, while Sweden has to go into the qualifying round.

In Group C, world champions USA celebrated a 6-3 win against Denmark and took a big step towards winning the group. Germany, on the other hand, disappointed in the 3-4 defeat against Latvia and is under pressure before the final duel with the USA.

Women’s tournament already in the finals

Two semi-finalists have already been determined in the women’s tournament: defending champion Canada beat Germany 5-1, while Switzerland narrowly defeated Finland 1-0. The two teams will now meet in the semi-finals. The USA and Sweden will contest the second semi-final.
