After his first season at VSV, Pierre Allard gave the “Kronen Zeitung” a mixed but overall positive assessment. After a difficult start with eight defeats in the first eight games, the team improved significantly as the season progressed.
“We played quite well from January onwards. The team came together and we were then able to qualify for the play-offs,” the VSV coach told the “Kronen Zeitung”.
The quarter-final defeat against EC Graz (0:4 in the series) was disappointing, but from his point of view it was closer than the result would suggest. “Our problem was that we gave Graz too much space in the neutral zone. As a result, they raced towards our goal with enormous speed.”
Focus on the coming season
Allard is already working intensively on the next season. The focus is on more aggressiveness and tactical flexibility. “My goal is to play even more aggressively, we also want to practice two or three systems so that we are simply harder to calculate.” The coach wants to make the team more variable and perform more consistently than last season.
Retreat into nature
After the intensive season, Allard will return to Canada at the end of April. There he owns a house on Lake Quareau, where he spends the summer months away from the hustle and bustle of ice hockey.
“We’re in the middle of nowhere. I only have one neighbor and he’s 300 meters away,” he says. He spends his free time fishing, hiking and mountain biking.
