Steinbach Black Wings Linz Head Coach Phil Lukas talks in a detailed interview about his philosophy as a trainer, the importance of authenticity, the balance between success and development – and why inspiration is the core of his work.
In an in-depth interview conducted before the start of the season, head coach Phil Lukas gives exciting insights into his work and his way of thinking as an ice hockey coach. For Lukas, the focus is on one thing: the person behind the player.
“We are in a business where we deal with people,” says Lukas. “Coaching has changed dramatically – today it’s less about tactics and more about interpersonal relationships.”
The former professional emphasizes how important authenticity and clear communication are in the coaching team: “It is crucial that you embody what is important to you – and convey this message to the team clearly and understandably.”
Lukas also speaks openly about the daily routine, the importance of trust in the staff and the path to sustainable development in the club. It is particularly important to him that success cannot only be measured in victories: “Success is also reflected in the development of each individual player – both athletically and personally.”
Finally, Lukas looks at his motivation: “I became a trainer to inspire people – and I hope that I can do that every day.”
