This start makes you want more! On Friday, the KSV Kängurus and the Atse Graz fought a narrow fight at the early Styrian derby in the division Ost, which the Grazer in overtime won 2-1 and thus provided the first big surprise in the new season. On October 4, the oil starts with the first full match day.
The Ö Ice Hockey League started their fifth season with the Styrian derby between host KSV Kängurus and the Atse Graz. The Grazers had the first overpowering game, but the home side took the lead. The only 19-year-old newcomer Phileas Lyssy was outnumbered exactly where a center had to be a center, used a rebound to 1-0 for the Kapfenberger and scored his first goal in his first Öel match (5th). In the further course of the first third, the Mürztaler had two PowerPlay opportunities, it remained after the first 20 minutes on the narrow one-goal lead.
A fight and little goals
At the beginning of the second section, both teams showed good offensive actions without neglecting defensive work. After grooving in the first third, intensity naturally increased. The atse acted more confidently and cheeky with every change, the balance – also due to another overpowering game – was close in this phase. But the kangaroos also remained dangerous in their advances, Graz keeper Gernot Fally showed how his counterpart Felix Nussbacher showed a good start. Towards the end of the middle section, the scraps flew, for KSV-Crack Neal Unterluggauer and Ase defender Florian Angerbauer, the game was over after a boxing insert.
Atse with the better end
The Kapfenberger could not use a power play at the beginning of the last third and had to accept the equalization a little later: after a Facoff, Luca Rodiga sugar -folded the situation in the slot the fastest and lifted the puck to 1-1 for the atse into the net (48.). Crunchtime was the order of the day, the kangaroos initially survived an outnumber. Shortly before the end, Filip Matijević had the victory goal on the racket, but Kapfenberg’s keeper Felix Nußbacher fished the disc from the corner with a remarkable fishing hand. The derby went to overtime, in which Maximilian Schwarz from a short distance ensured the surprising 2-1 victory for the guests (62nd). The team of Head Coach Markus Losch, who had not reached the playoff in the previous season with only two wins from 16 games and at this time two test games against the Mürztaler – 1: 5 and 2: 4 – lost the first win in the first match.
