After the dismissal of head coach Gerry Fleming at the Vienna Capitals, sports director Christian Dolezal is looking for a new strong man behind the gang to drive forward the expected sporting development that failed to materialize under Fleming. While assistant coach Fabian Scholz is looking after the team on an interim basis until the November international break, according to the “Kronen Zeitung”, there is a name doing the rounds in the rumor mill that is causing a lot of conversation: Kevin Constantine.
The 66-year-old American is considered a coach with great international reputation and an eventful career. Constantine looked after the San Jose Sharks in the North American professional league NHL and the Pittsburgh Penguins as head coach. His expertise is undisputed.
Constantine also left his mark in Europe. He was a member of the Swiss cult club HC Ambri-Piotta and was also head coach of the Hungarian national team three years ago. He is also well-known in the ICE Hockey League as he managed the Hungarian team Hydro Fehérvár AV19 from 2021 to 2023 and achieved considerable success with them before leaving the club at his own request in the summer of 2023. He has been head coach of SC Csíkszereda in Romania for almost two years now.
