Things are currently going fast in the Alps Hockey League. There are five games on the program again this Thursday. In the top game, league leaders KHL Sisak host defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären, while second-placed HC Gherdeina valgardena.it meets HC Migross Asiago. The Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel want to get back on the road to success at home against HC Meran/o Pircher. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors duel with EC Bregenzerwald follows on Friday.
League leader KHL Sisak is currently five points ahead of EK Die Zeller Eisbären with 17 points, but has played one more game. While the Croatians had no game on Tuesday, Zell am See celebrated a 3-1 win at home against Cortina – their fourth win in their sixth game of the season. Sisak, on the other hand, has only lost one of his seven games so far. With 28 goals scored and just 10 goals conceded, Sisak currently has both the best offense and the best defense in the league. The Eisbären don’t have any good memories of the first meeting last season: in Sisak there was a clear 2:10 defeat. In the second away game, however, they got revenge with a 4-3 win, and at home they celebrated a 3-0 win.
Val Gardena meets Asiago
Second-placed HC Gherdeina valgardena.it suffered a small setback on Tuesday. After four wins in a row, the “Furie” lost 1:5 at Ritten and thus missed out on reaching the top of the table. Eleventh place awaits on Thursday, HC Migross Asiago, which is currently six points behind Val Gardena with nine points. Asiago was without a game on Tuesday, but recently lost at home against Zell am See 3-4 – their first defeat after three wins in a row. In preparation for the season, both teams met in Val Gardena, where the home team narrowly had the upper hand 2-1.
Kitzbühel wants to get back on the road to success against Meran
After two defeats in a row – most recently a 1:2 in Salzburg – the Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel want to score again on Thursday against HC Meran/o Pircher. Merano is currently in good form: the South Tyroleans recently won against Jesenice (3:1) and Cortina (3:2). In the table, Meran is in eighth place with 11 points, while Kitzbühel is fifth with 12 points – although with one more game played. Last season, Kitzbühel clearly won all three direct duels.
Jesenice wants to confirm recovery against Cortina
Runner-up HDD Jesenice remains in twelfth place in the table, but celebrated their second success of the season on Tuesday with a 7-4 win against Unterland. SG Cortina Hafro lost 1:3 in Zell am See – the third defeat from the last four games. With 10 points, the Italians are in ninth place, three points ahead of Jesenice. Last season, both teams met in the quarter-finals, which Jesenice won 4-1.
Unterland is aiming for its second win of the season against Ritten
In the fifth game on Thursday, bottom team Hockey Unterland Cavaliers will host the Rittner Buam SkyAlps. Unterland has only celebrated one win this season so far – against Ritten of all places: On September 27th, the Cavaliers won 3-2 away. Ritten is currently in fourth place, three points behind leader Sisak, but with one game more. On Tuesday, the Buam celebrated a 5-1 home win against Val Gardena, in which Leonardo Felicetti scored a hat trick. Overall, however, the Buam were only able to win two of their last five games.
Juniors welcome Bregenzerwald on Friday
The Alps Hockey League will also be played on Friday: The Red Bull Hockey Juniors will meet EC Bregenzerwald. The Young Bulls are currently in top form – with three wins from their last five games. On Tuesday they won 2-1 at home against Kitzbühel and thus scored points in all five home games this season (three wins, two overtime and shootout defeats). In the table, the team from Salzburg is in a strong third place, while Bregenzerwald is tenth – five points behind RBJ, but with two fewer games played. Vorarlberg recently celebrated a 5-2 away win at Unterland and won a total of three of their last five games. In a direct comparison with the Juniors, the “Wälder” lost out in two out of three duels last season.
