Milan26: ICEHL-Crack nominated as flag bearer for his country

As part of a major press conference by Danmarks Idrætsforbund, the National Olympic Committee (NOK) of Denmark, the flag bearers for the opening ceremony of the 25th Winter Olympic Games in Italy in February were presented on Monday morning in Copenhagen. This honor will go to Red Jackets defender Jesper Jensen Aabo, who will lead his home country’s line-up of athletes on February 6th at the famous Giuseppe Meazza Stadium in Milan and carry the red and white flag of Denmark.

The currently injured defender briefly interrupted his therapy to travel to Copenhagen for this appointment. For Jensen Aabo, as well as for the Danish national team, the Winter Olympics are the second in history after they failed in the quarter-finals in 2022 against the team from Russia. The 34-year-old took part in each of the last 14(!) A World Cups and also led his home country as captain in the most recent three tournaments – and, as is well known, sensationally made it to the World Cup semi-finals in May 2025.

Also in the squad at the time was his club colleague in Klagenfurt, Mathias From, who now has to take a seat in the proverbial “ejector seat” for the Olympic tournament: The KAC striker will report to the Danish national team’s camp in Milan and take part in the first four days of training. In the event of illness or injury to a teammate, he is the first replacement in the squad. Goalkeeper Sebastian Dahm, who decided to make a comeback for the home World Cup at short notice last spring, has already ended his national team career.
