VSV managing director Winkler: “We understand the fans’ displeasure”

Villacher SV is still deep in the sporting crisis. After nine defeats from the last ten games and a current series of six defeats in a row, the mood around the traditional club is tense. Even new coach Pierre Allard has not been able to stop the negative trend so far – six defeats from seven games speak for themselves.

There were clear reactions after the recent 1:4 defeat against Bolzano. According to the “Kronen Zeitung”, sports director Herbert Hohenberger spoke to the team immediately after the game and gave a clear speech in the dressing room. The players themselves also withdrew that same evening for an internal discussion.

Managing director Martin Winkler told the “Kronen Zeitung” that he was self-critical and understanding of the tense atmosphere around the club. “We are totally disappointed ourselves, not much is working out. We understand the fans’ displeasure,” said Winkler openly. He spoke of an unsettled team that is currently unable to convert its chances into goals. At the same time, Winkler made it clear that the club fully supports coach Pierre Allard. Another coaching castling would neither make sense from a sporting point of view nor would it be financially feasible. In the long term, Allard should implement the fast, aggressive hockey that the club wants to see in the future. Winkler adds: “We also understand the fans’ displeasure.”

Winkler cited the very intensive training of the past few weeks as one of the reasons for the sporting misery. The high physical strain apparently also left mental marks. The crisis also had consequences for the season’s goals: the originally targeted top 6 places were officially checked off. The focus is now clearly on the intermediate round and reaching the play-offs.
