U18 World Cup: Austria’s women celebrate opening success!

Head coach Arto Sieppi’s team has made a perfect start to the 2026 IIHF Women’s U18 World Championship, Division IB. After a goalless first third, the ÖEHV team turned things around and took a 1-0 lead through Florentina Rumpl 20 seconds after the start of the second third. Emma Lintner increased the score to 2-0 in the 32nd minute, and in the final third the two players finally made things clear. The game continues against China on Epiphany at 1:00 p.m.

“It’s always good to win the first game at a World Cup. Everyone is excited. The players, we coaches. No matter who the opponent is. It took us a while to get into the game, but then we had a perfect start in the second third. The players stuck to our instructions and our goalkeeper kept the zero. We are very satisfied and are now ready for China,” summed up head coach Arto Sieppi happily after the start of the World Cup.

Even though they created more chances to score than their opponents in the first 20 minutes, they still had to wait until shortly after the first break until the deserved lead was scored.

And Florentina Rumpl contributed this after exactly 20 seconds after preparatory work by Johanna Sintschnig. From then on, Austria played more freely, controlled the goal and increased the lead to 2-0 through Emma Lintner in the power play in the 32nd minute. This time the assist came from Florentina Rumpl, who entered the scorer’s list again in the 45th minute. Emma Lintner made it 4-0 in the 59th minute even after being outnumbered.

The game continues against China on Tuesday afternoon.
