The Vienna Capitals will have to do without attacker Marco Richter for the rest of the season. The 30-year-old Viennese suffered a serious upper body injury during the away game in Budapest last week. Richter will therefore have to undergo an operation in the coming days, which will result in the early end of the season.
Maximilian Theirich also has to take a forced break. The 22-year-old also suffered an upper body injury in Villach last Sunday. Although this will not result in an operation, Theirich will be out for weeks.
Caps head coach Kevin Constantine has to do without four long-term injuries, including Senna Peeters and Sebastian Wraneschitz. Peeters and Wraneschitz are making encouraging progress in their healing, but will not be able to return to the ice in the 2025 calendar year. Sam Antonitsch, who missed Sunday’s game in Villach due to an upper body injury suffered against Innsbruck, is expected back soon. Benjamin Lanzinger, who missed the last two games due to illness, is ready to play again.
Statement Christian Dolezal, sporting director of the Vienna Capitals
It is frustrating that in Marco Richter we are losing a leading player who always puts himself at the service of the team for the rest of the season. In the long term, however, surgery is the only viable option. I wish him a speedy recovery so that he can come back stronger next season. Even if we don’t have to be without him for that long, Maximilian Theirich’s injury is annoying. Austrian players simply cannot be replaced equally at this stage of the season due to a lack of alternatives, but the coaching team and I will leave no stone unturned to bring a powerful team onto the ice.
