Former Black Wings Linz legionnaire celebrates comeback after two years off!

He played his last game on November 12, 2022, back then for the Orlando Solar Bears in the ECHL, and finished with two goals and one assist. Then nothing was heard from him for over two years before he celebrated his comeback at the age of 39.

We are talking about Steve Oleksy, who was signed by the Black Wings Linz in February 2020 for the remainder of the current season. The defender, who played his part in winning the Stanley Cup with eleven games for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2016/17, played eleven games for the Stahlstadters, scored two goals and prepared two more.

He then took a year off before celebrating his comeback in the North American ECHL. But in November 2022 it was over – for now! At the beginning of December, the Jacksonville Icemen brought him back out of retirement for two ECHL games and Oleksy scored an assist on the comeback.

He must have performed so convincingly that they signed him for the rest of the season. The 39-year-old defender was on the ice for the first time yesterday against his former team, the Orlando Solar Bears, but was unable to prevent the 2:3 overtime defeat.
