The EC Red Bull Salzburg had to give up 2: 3 in the away game of the Champions Hockey League against Kalpa Kuopio and remains without points after two games in Finland.
After the early lead by Lucas Thaler, the Finns turned up and the game in the first section in their favor. In the end, the Red Bulls, with six field players, managed the connection goal through Dennis Robertson, but to equalize it was no longer enough against the strong Finns. The Red Bulls now hold two wins and two defeats after four Chl games. The last two games of the regular season – away against the Odense Bulldogs and at home against the Eisbären Berlin – will be held in October.
Gameplay
Devante Stephens had the first chance of the Red Bulls (again with defender Maximilian Kirchebner and the young Finnish striker Maxim Eliseev im Lineup in the 2nd minute with the solo run, but still pressed by a defender. Benjamin Nissner then drove through the complete defense of the Finn, failed due to goalkeeper Patrik Kerkola (5th). With the third chance, the Red Bulls took the lead, Lucas Thaler pulled out of half -distance after a quick attack (7th). But the many outnumbered games were revenge. Within less than two minutes, Kalpa turned the game with two power play goals. Juuso Ketola hammered the disc into the Kreuzeck (14th), David Kickert in the Salzburg Gate had no view. Shortly thereafter, Teemu followed Hartikainen via one-timer (15th). With the same team strength, however, the Salzburgers were at eye level, Michael Raffl still had the great opportunity in front of the goal (18th). After a turbulent first third, the home side led 2-1.
In the second section, David Kickert was initially under fire. First outnumbered, then also in a strong Kalpa game in 5 against 5. Even with a power play (from 28th), the Finns had the better (counter) chances, stopped by Salzburg’s goalkeeper. After that, the Salzburgers kept the game open at times, Peter Schneider had the chance from a short distance (35th). But Kalpa increased the pressure again and nine seconds before the second break, Aleksi Klemetti scored the third goal after a short single -time (40th), after which David Kickert was previously thwarted. After the second defense -dominated third, the Red Bulls were 1: 3 behind.
The final third was more open again. Michael Raffl had the second goal after a short time on the racket (45th). The Red Bulls pushed the game forward and came to further good shots. But they had to be worked hard, because Kalpa was also well positioned. Salzburg pressed until the end and Dennis Robertson actually scored the connection goal to 2: 3 (59.) with six field players from a distance. The compensation should then no longer succeed, the Red Bulls documents at the Finnish champion 2: 3.
