Chris Harand is back at the Vienna Capitals!

The Vienna Capitals installed Christoph Harand as head coach of the U18 team. The 44-year-old, who played for the Vienna Capitals between 2001 and 2004, played a total of 503 first division games in Austria over the course of his career and became champion once, is taking over the capital club’s second-highest youth team from Czech Karel Soudek.

Christoph Harand, who played at the highest level for WEV, Lustenau, the Capitals, Linz, Klagenfurt, Graz and Dornbirn, has already gained experience in coaching in recent years. The son of Kurt Harand – co-founder and first head coach of the Vienna Capitals – and brother of Patrick Harand, who also played for the Caps from 2001 to 2004, looked after the EHC Lions U18 team from 2018 to 2020.

The 44-year-old then worked as head coach of the IceHawks U20 team and as assistant coach of the Okanagan U18 team. In the current season, Harand acted as assistant coach of the Austrian U16 national team.
