As is tradition, Hockey-News is once again looking for the player of the season. Before that, however, it is important to choose the respective players of the month, which will be determined by fan voting. In the first monthly voting we are looking for the player of the month for September.
Six players are nominated each month by the Hockey News editorial team, who then compete for Player of the Month. The winner will be determined through a fan vote lasting several weeks and will qualify directly for the election for Player of the 2025/26 season, which will take place after the last monthly vote.
In addition to the six monthly winners, the editorial team nominated six other deserving players, giving a total of twelve players to choose from. The result of the final Player of the Year election is the sum of two votes. 50% from the fan voting as in the Player of the Month elections and 50% from an editorial vote in which the Hockey News editorial team votes.
Voting runs until Thursday, October 30th / midnight and here are the nominations for Player of the Month for September:
NICOLAI MEYER (Olimpija Ljubljana)
6 games – 4 goals – 9 assists – +6
After a year of absence, Nicolai Meyer returned to the ICEHL and continues where he left off. He scores at will and is clearly leading the scorers with 13 points from six games.
TJ BRENNAN (Olimpja Ljubljana)
6 games – 6 goals – 6 assists – +6
The same applies to TJ Brennan as to Meyer. It’s been a few years since his time in the domestic league, but the offensive defender hasn’t forgotten anything. Just like in 2020/21 for Salzburg, he now scores for Laibach.
NICK BAILEN (Moser Medical Graz99ers)
5 games – 2 goals – 6 assists – +5
Nick Bailen showed his qualities last year when he was brought from Cologne around Christmas. He has now confirmed his contract extension with outstanding performances.
BRIAN LEBLER (Black Wings Linz)
5 games – 5 goals – 1 assists – +1
The best ICEHL scorer of all time knows where the box is, even at 37 years old. Five goals from the first five games of the season prove that he is once again one of the absolute top scorers.
CONNOR CORCORAN (Red Bull Salzburg)
6 games – 5 goals – 1 assists – +1
The replacement for top defender Ryan Murphy makes his departure forgotten. The Canadian showed no adjustment problems at his first stop in Europe and is the third Defender to qualify for the first monthly voting.
LUKAS HORAK (Olimpija Ljubljana)
5 games – 5 wins – 11 goals conceded – 93.3% catch rate – 0 shut-out
The Slovenian number 1 fits seamlessly into the top performances of those in front of them and was able to achieve five wins from the first five games of the season and is therefore still unbeaten.
