Graz99ers President Jerich: “You can’t lose to the last guy”

The Graz99ers parted ways with head coach Harry Lange this morning. President Herbert Jerich made it clear that the sporting development had not met expectations.

“We discussed the season and wanted to wait until the break. But what doesn’t work for me: It reflects last season – we have more and more shots, but no goals. And you can’t lose to the last guy,” said Jerich, explaining the separation, as the “Kleine Zeitung” reports.

The president was particularly disappointed that the results were lacking despite a good squad composition and sufficient budget. “Linz didn’t strengthen itself, I brought in a great goalie, two great centers and a great wing. We provided the means to beat such opponents – and not lose to a lucky punch,” emphasized Jerich.

Although the 99ers have only lost once in regular time this season, the president sees a need for action: “You don’t always have to go into extra time, you can also win beforehand. I imagine it to be like the 6-1 win in Villach. The team has to set the tone!”

The club boss announced a quick succession plan for the coming weeks: “We have to find a real talent as a coach who will build the team’s calves.” Despite the change of coach, the goal remains unchanged – qualifying for the Champions Hockey League and fighting for the title.
