On Saturday, EK Zeller Eisbären ended Asiago’s impressive winning streak and thus defended its lead in the Master Round. The Red Bull Hockey Juniors were also able to celebrate – they celebrated their first win in the second round.
While Cortina extended their lead at the top of the table in Qualification Round A, Unterland achieved their first success with a shutout. In the Qualification Round B, Val Gardena started the next phase with an away win.
Master round
HC Migross Asiago – EK Die Zeller Eisbären 1:3 (1:1, 0:1, 0:1)
After eleven league wins in a row, Asiago had to admit defeat again for the first time. Zell am See took the lead in the seventh minute through Coffman. Porco equalized in a balanced first third before the break before Rappold scored again for the guests in the middle period. Another goal from Coffman made it 3-1 – a lead that the Eisbären maintained over time with a strong defensive performance and goalie Schmidt behind them. This means that Zell am See remains leader of the Master Round.
Red Bull Hockey Juniors – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 4:3 (1:0, 1:2, 2:1)
The Juniors returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 4:3 win against Vipiteno. After Eliseev took the lead in the first third, Vipiteno briefly turned the game around in the second period, but Salzburg equalized and went ahead again in the final third. Cianfrone made it 3-3 in the 50th minute before Eliseev scored the game winner with his second goal just 29 seconds later. It was the Broncos’ second away loss in the Master Round.
Qualification Round A
HC Meran/o Pircher – SG Cortina Hafro 4:6 (1:0, 1:5, 2:1)
Thanks to a furious middle section, Cortina celebrated its fifth win in a row. Meran initially took the lead through Nousiainen, but the guests turned the game in their favor with five goals in the second third. Kalajanniska scored a hat trick and made it 5-2 shortly before the second break. Despite a late brace from Cruseman, Kalajanniska made the final decision with his fourth goal – into an empty net.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 2:0 (0:0, 1:0, 1:0)
Unterland celebrated its first victory in the qualifying round. After a goalless first third, Santer gave the home team the lead in the second half. Even in the final third, Kitzbühel found no remedy against the outstanding goalie Giovanelli, who fended off all 34 shots and recorded a shutout. In the last minute, Erik Potsinok made it 2-0. The Cavaliers moved up to third place.
Qualification Round B
Rittner Buam SkyAlps – HC Gherdeina valgardena.it 2:3 (0:0, 1:2, 1:1)
After an intense but goalless first third, Welychka gave the Rittner the lead. Afterwards, thanks to Luisetti and Schiavone (PP), Val Gardena turned the game around before the second break. Welychka equalized with his second goal shortly after the restart, but Dostalek gave Val Gardena the lead again just three minutes later. Despite a powerful final phase, the Buam could no longer find a way past goalie Endre. Val Gardena secured three important points in the first game of Qualification Round B, while Ritten suffered its first defeat.
