Assistant to the Norwegian since 2023, Liniger signed a contract which runs until 2027. This is his first experience as head coach in the National League at 45 years old. The Emmentaler gained experience in the Swiss League with the GCK Lions.
Liniger, who played more than 700 matches in the National League with Langnau, Ambri and Kloten, was part of the staff of the Swiss team which won the silver medal at the World Championship in Prague last May. Once in Zug, he will no longer be able to combine the two.
Current coach Dan Tangnes asked in November, for family reasons, to anticipate the end of his contract which ran until 2026. The Norwegian, who joined the Zougois in 2018 and won the championship titles in 2021 and in 2022, recently signed a contract with the Swedes of Rögle.
