After head coach Harry Lange’s leave of absence, the Graz99ers are looking for a new head coach – and the offers are piling up. Sports director Philipp Pinter confirms that numerous agents have already contacted us to send their candidates into the race.
“There are a few names that keep coming up. Of course there are a few more exciting and a few less exciting names,” Pinter told the “Kleine Zeitung”. On Thursday the list of possible successors was examined in more detail for the first time, and on Saturday club president Herbert Jerich returns from vacation – then the decision-making process should become more concrete. “There is still a bit of time,” emphasizes Pinter. “We don’t want to make a quick decision – it has to be the best fit for our team.”
No trend yet – Tapola name in circulation
Pinter leaves it open whether the direction of the search for a coach is more towards Scandinavia or North America: “I can’t say a trend yet, because there really isn’t one yet. I’ve already read names in the media that I haven’t even heard of myself.”
A name that keeps coming up around the ice rink at the bunker is that of the Finn Jussi Tapola, who was recently released from SC Bern. Whether the former champion coach is actually an issue remains open – Pinter did not want to comment on it. However, one thing is certain: the sports director has not yet spoken to previous 99ers coaches.
