On Saturday, champions Zell am See celebrated a 7:4 home win against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors. The other pursuers KHL Sisak and Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel prevailed away.
EK Die Zeller Eisbären – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 7:4 (2:2, 4:2, 1:0)
2,600 fans in the KE KELIT Arena saw a top game full of goals, in which Widen gave the home team the lead in the power play in the third minute. The Juniors turned the game around through Juhola and Eliseev before Zell am See equalized before the first third break. In the middle period, the reigning champions pulled ahead with three goals to make it 5:2. The score went into the second break at 6:4. In the 59th minute, Tomazevic, despite being outnumbered, made the final score 7:4 via an empty net. Zell am See celebrated its fifth win in a row and took revenge for the first derby defeat of the season, while the league leaders’ winning streak came to an end.
EC Bregenzerwald – KHL Sisak 1:2 SO (0:1, 1:0, 0:0)
In the first of two consecutive duels, Sisak took the lead in the sixth minute through Larionovs. In a balanced game, the Vorarlbergers managed to equalize in the middle section in front of almost 1,000 fans when Lipsbergs converted a penalty. Since the score remained 1-1 even after extra time, the decision was made in the shootout: Idzan secured the extra point for the Croatians, who were still in second place. On Sunday the teams will face each other again in Dornbirn.
Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel 1:4 (0:2, 1:1, 0:1)
The Kitzbüheler Adler continued their winning streak with a 4-1 away win at the Unterland Cavaliers and remained unbeaten for the sixth game in a row. The Tyroleans started the game strongly, dominated the first third and led 2-0 thanks to goals from Loshing and Krainz. After the break, the Cavaliers got into the game better and reduced the lead to 1:2 on the power play through Potsinok. But Kitzbühel reacted promptly: Podlipnik restored the old two-goal lead with a precise shot. In the final period, KEC goalie Tom McCollum maintained the lead with strong saves before Maxa made the final score 4-1 with an empty net goal.
HC Migross Asiago – HDD Jesenice 4:5 OT (2:0, 1:2, 1:2)
As was the case against Cortina, Asiago gave up a two-goal lead on Saturday. The Italians were already leading 2-0 in the home game against Jesenice thanks to Porco and Chiodo – both of whom scored twice. The Slovenians fought back twice, but were down 2-4 with five minutes left. Svetina brought Jesenice close again before Baloh equalized 33 seconds before the end of normal time. In overtime, Svetina made the decision again and ended Jesenice’s losing streak.
Rittner Buam SkyAlps – SG Cortina Hafro 3:0 (1:0, 1:0, 1:0)
A fast, competitive and exciting game developed in the Ritten Arena. In the first third, Felicetti gave the home team a 1-0 lead after a remarkable combination via Cuglietta and Alderson, after both teams had previously missed good chances. Right at the start of the middle period, Fink made it 2-0 with a deflection after a shot from Madsen. In the final third, Cortina pushed for the next goal, but Furlong kept the score at zero with several strong saves. Shortly before the end, Cuglietta hit the empty goal and also completed Furlong’s shutout with a 3-0 win.
HC Gherdeina valgardena.it – Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan 2:6 (2:2, 0:3, 0:1)
Val Gardena suffered its sixth defeat in a row in the home game against Vipiteno. Conci gave the Broncos the lead after just 76 seconds. Elmar Parth’s team equalized shortly afterwards and had an answer for being behind again – they went into the break 2-2. In the 30th minute, Conci restored Sterzing’s lead. The guests pulled away further with two power play goals. Val Gardena conceded further penalties in the final third and Sanvido ensured the final score with a double majority.
