The NHL as a goal: Will Vinzenz Rohrer miss the World Cup?

Last year he showed outstanding performances at the World Cup, but this year Vinzenz Rohrer’s participation in the World Cup could be shaky: North America is calling!

At just 21 years old, Vinzenz Rohrer has already celebrated two championship titles and the Champions League victory with the ZSC Lions. Another possible career highlight is coming up: the A World Cup in May at the Swiss Life Arena in Zurich, the home of his club.

For Rohrer it would be “practically a home World Cup” in which he would definitely like to take part. Whether this happens, however, is not in the hands of team boss Roger Bader, but rather with the Montreal Canadiens, who awarded the Austrian a three-year contract last June.

Montreal Canadiens make the decision

The Canadiens will let Rohrer play in the Swiss league this season, but could send him to the AHL farm team Laval Rocket after the end of the season. If Rohrer gets into the play-offs there, participation in the World Cup would be questionable and the ÖEHV team would be missing a potential key player. The Vorarlberg native is in regular contact with Montreal, which continually analyzes his games in Zurich and gives him feedback.

What is certain is that Rohrer will rejoin the Canadiens’ preparation program in the summer and make his next attempt at an NHL squad spot, as the “Kronen Zeitung” reports. Before that, he will be on the ice with the Austrian national team at the three-nation tournament in Oslo at the weekend, where he is confidently aiming for two wins against Hungary and hosts Norway.
