Vorarlberg NHL striker Marco Rossi is currently taking the next step in his career with the Minnesota Wild. In conversation with the “Small newspaperRossi spoke about his new role, responsibility and routines in everyday NHL life.
Rossi is currently playing in the top line-up alongside Kirill Kaprizov and Matt Boldy – a line that was already convincing in preparation. “It feels really good, the chemistry just works. Of course it’s nice to get the trust from the coach – and at the same time you want to show that it was the right decision,” said Rossi.
With his new role comes more responsibility – and more recognition within the team. “Your teammates give you respect through good performance. You have to earn that,” the Vorarlberg player continued. However, there is not much communication with the coaching staff in the NHL: “The team regulates a lot of things themselves – we decide on the ice.”
As usual, Rossi formulates his personal goal modestly but resolutely. After a strong preseason with 60 scorer points, he wanted to “go one step further”. He feels that “there is more to him” and that he “hasn’t shown everything yet”.
Enormous stress requires discipline
Rossi also addressed the enormous strain of the long NHL season: “It’s simply not possible to perform at the top level in all 82 games. Sometimes you’re really exhausted, but you have to get through it.” Discipline, a healthy diet and enough sleep are crucial to staying fit and injury-free.
With the Minnesota Wild, Rossi not only wants to reach the play-offs again this season, but also finally get through the first round – a goal that has so far eluded the club. “Of course everyone wants to win the Stanley Cup. That’s why we’re here,” emphasized Rossi.
