The EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV continues to rely on continuity in defense and has extended the contract with defender Thomas Vallant for another season. The 30-year-old Wolfsberg native, who has been wearing the Adler jersey for two seasons, is entering his third season in the blue and white jersey.
Vallant, who trained at arch-rivals in Klagenfurt, is one of the most experienced players in the win2day ICE Hockey League. In 15 seasons in Austria’s top division, the robust defender has played a total of 627 games and recorded 28 goals and 58 assists (86 points). He has also celebrated two championship titles over the course of his career.
Vallant has also established himself as a reliable constant at VSV since his move. In 93 appearances for Villach so far, he has scored 8 goals and 13 assists. What is particularly noteworthy, however, is his strong defensive performance: in both seasons in the blue and white uniform, Vallant won over 53.5% of his duels and was consistently among the top 3 on the team in terms of both hits and blocked shots. Overall, he was one of the Eagles’ most physically present players.
With his uncompromising style of play, his experience and his physical presence, Vallant will continue to play a central role in Villach’s defense next season. Above all, in head coach Pierre Allard’s game system, he is supposed to ensure stability, depth and the necessary pressure in his own zone.
