The ice hockey world mourns the loss of Wade Macleod. The Canadian striker died on September 13 at the age of only 38. He has been fighting a brain tumor again and again since 2013, undertook a total of six operations – most recently in February 2025.
Macleod played in the DEL2 for Starbulls Rosenheim (2015/16) and the Löwen Frankfurt (2017/18). In 56 games for the Hesse, he scored 25 goals and prepared 24 more. In 2018 he had already signed a contract with the Dresden Eislöwen, but had to dissolve it due to a new relapse.
The fans in Dresden and Frankfurt supported him with fundraisers at the time, the Eislöwen did not award his planned rear number 19 in the 2018/19 season and even cleared him for the following season.
After a temporary recovery, Macleod continued his career in England (Manchester Storm) and Norway before finally giving up his ice skates in 2022 to spend time with his family.
In September 2023 he suffered a stroke during a camping trip. Doctors found that the tumor had returned. Despite further operation and the hope of a miracle, his condition deteriorated. His wife Karl announced his death on Wednesday.
Macleod leaves his wife and the two daughters Ava and Georgia. The striker was only 38 years old.
