In the first of two Alps Hockey League games this week, HDD Jesenice celebrated a clear 6-0 home win against EC Bregenzerwald. For last year’s finalists it was the first game in Qualification Round B, for Bregenzerwald it was already the second defeat in the second game. This means that Vorarlberg, who started the group at the top with three bonus points, will slip to last place in the table and would currently miss the pre-playoffs. The second game of the week takes place on Saturday between Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel and the Hockey Unterland Cavaliers.
Nejc Burgar gave Jesenice the lead after just 97 seconds, before Žiga Mehle made it 2-0 on a power play in the eighth minute. Just five minutes later, the home team struck again with the advantage: Once again it was Burgar who scored an early brace with his second goal of the evening. Overall, Bregenzerwald took too many penalties, so Erik Svetina made it 4-0 in the power play (25th). But it didn’t stop there, because in the 33rd minute Miha Oblak increased the score to 5-0, this time with numerical parity. Two minutes before the end, Luc Slivnik finally made the final score 6-0. It was the fourth shutout of the season for Jesenice goalkeeper Žan Us.
The Slovenians celebrated their first success in the first game of Qualification Round B and moved past EC Bregenzerwald in the table. Jesenice is now in third place. Vorarlberg – for whom it was their fourth defeat in a row – slipped to fourth place and would currently miss the pre-playoffs.
