The Vienna Capitals had to admit defeat to FTC-Telekom with 1:2 on Wednesday evening.
The Viennese took the lead in the seventh minute thanks to a power play goal from Benjamin Lanzinger. Rasmus Bengtsson also equalized in the first third with a power-play goal (16th/PP1). The middle third was goalless despite several great chances for the Viennese. In the final period, Ferenc Laskawy scored the winning goal in favor of the home team (46th). The Capitals will host HC TIWAG Innsbruck in the STEFFL Arena on Saturday (5:30 p.m.).
Statement Kevin Constantine, head coach of the Vienna Capitals
“Especially in the first ten minutes, the team acted as we expected. You can tell that they have to get used to the new style of play. After that, we got into the game pretty well, especially in the second third. We had good chances, the opposing goalkeeper made a few good saves. But we could have gone into the final third with a one or two goal lead. We also had good chances in the third third, didn’t allow much, but they found a way to score.
I was impressed that the players knew immediately when a detail went wrong on the ice and took responsibility for it. If they can see and understand now what needs to be done differently, then we will improve quickly. But it will take a few weeks until everything becomes second nature. If that happens, we will be able to move faster on the ice. We always want to win, so with that in mind I’m disappointed with the result. Nevertheless, we took a few steps and worked properly.”
