After Graz farewell: Striker changes within the league!

With Lukas Kainz, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz are bringing in a newly crowned champion from Graz. The long-time national team striker and hard worker signs a three-year contract in the steel city.

Newly crowned master

The Upper Austrians are strengthening their attack with a lot of ambition and leadership in the colors red-white-red. Team striker Lukas Kainz is moving to the Untere Donaulände on a long-term basis and brings with him the motivation from the Karl Nedwed Trophy that he has just lifted. Even though an injury after the first quarter-final game prevented him from actively participating in the playoffs, he crowned his six years in Styria with the title. However, the Viennese native began his professional career in Salzburg after training at the Red Bull Academy. The now 30-year-old made his debut in the top division in the 2014/15 season and was able to call himself part of the championship team after his first two appearances. In the city of Mozart, however, the striker commuted between the fighting team and the Alps Hockey League.

National team player

That’s why he moved to the 99ers in 2018, where he matured into a regular player and thereby earned a place in the Austrian national team. The left-handed shooter has worn the eagle a total of 67 times so far and also represented his home country at the World Cup last year. At national level, Kainz also played for the Vienna Capitals for two seasons and demonstrated his qualities in front of goal with 25 points each. In total, the Neo-Linzer team has 423 games and 133 points in the win2day ICE Hockey League. In his eight full seasons as a professional in the Bundesliga, Kainz only played fewer than 40 matches in the regular season once.

Lukas Kainz will bring his experience to the Steinbach Black Wings Linz in the future. The center forward signed a long-term contract in the steel city and was given the number 18 shirt by his long-time friend Ken Ograjensek.
