The Ternitzer Eiswölfe from Lower Austria are causing a real bang in the Austrian ice hockey lower house: Mario Fischer is a player who was one of the most influential personalities in the ICEHL for over a decade. After ending his professional career, the 37-year-old former Vienna Capitals captain is now taking the step into the fourth Austrian league.
Fischer, who played 871 games in Austria’s top division during his impressive career, is a true Capitals icon. In the 2016/17 season he was crowned champion with the Viennese team, a milestone in his career.
After last season, Fischer drew a line under his time as a professional. The Capitals honored his work in a special way: his shirt number 50 will no longer be given away in Vienna.
Fischer started his career at Red Bull Salzburg before becoming a crowd favorite in Vienna. Now a new phase follows: The veteran joins the Ternitzer Eiswölfen, who want to cause a sensation in the fourth league.
