AlpsHL: Zeller Eisbären celebrate sweeping victory | Asiago’s winning streak also continues against RB Juniors!

Asiago beat Red Bull Hockey Juniors in extra time on Thursday and celebrated its eighth league win in a row. The Italians are getting closer and closer to direct playoff qualification. HC Migross Asiago – Red Bull Hockey Juniors 6:5 OT (1:2, 4:0, 0:3)
Asiago extended its winning streak to eight games with an overtime win against the Juniors. The league leaders from Salzburg started strong and led 2-0 early on. The Italians managed to score the next goal before the first break before setting off offensive fireworks in the middle section in front of over 1,600 fans: Porco scored twice, Mbow and F. Rigoni #19 ensured a clear 5-2 score. In the final third, the juniors made the game exciting again with two quick goals. Twelve seconds before the final siren, captain Gesson saved his team with the equalizer into extra time – but Asiago had the better end there: Bellini scored six seconds before the end of overtime to make the final score 6:5 and thus brought Asiago a little closer to direct playoff qualification.

KHL Sisak – SG Cortina Hafro 6:5 (3:1, 0:1, 3:3)
In the third duel of the season, Sisak had the upper hand for the first time. In front of over 1,500 spectators, the hosts quickly gained a two-goal lead and went into the first break with a 3-1 lead. In the middle period, Cortina reduced the lead to 3:2 before an open exchange of blows developed in the final third. Juric with his second goal and Puzic in the power play increased the score to 6:3, but Massimo Pietroniro brought Cortina back within 38 seconds with two goals. In the end, Sisak saved the narrow 6-5 win and celebrated their fourth home win in a row, while Cortina suffered their fifth away defeat in a row.

Hockey Unterland Cavaliers – EK Die Zeller Eisbären 2:7 (0:2, 1:3, 1:2)
Zell am See took impressive revenge for the clear home defeat at the end of November (1:5). The reigning champions were already leading 2-0 after the first third. Late in the second period, the Pinzgauers scored three times within 71 seconds – Huard scored his brace. Although Unterland shortened the score shortly afterwards, the game was decided. In the final third, last year’s league MVP Szypula scored again after a long injury break before Schmid made the final score 7-2 with his second goal.

Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan – HC Meran/o Pircher 2:1 (1:1, 0:0, 1:0)
