VSV legend Gerhard Unterluggauer applied for a comeback at VSV, but was rejected.
Gerhard Unterluggauer played 13 seasons in the top Austrian ice hockey league for VSV and ended his professional career there in 2016. He then started his ice hockey career off the ice and was head coach in the DEL2 for the Heilbronner Falken for two years.
In 2018 he returned to Villach and Unterluggauer was appointed head coach and a year later as sports director. The engagement in Villach ended in 2022 and the three-time Olympic and 14-time World Cup participant returned to Germany. He took over the U20 team at Starbulls Rosenheim and has been head coach of the youth team for four seasons.
But now his contract is expiring and Unterluggauer is probably aiming to return to his homeland. As the “Kronen Zeitung” reports, the 49-year-old applied to be the Adler’s youth manager. But the people of Villach turned down “Lugge”: “Gerhard is not an issue for us,” said Martin Winkler.
