ICEHL: Vienna Capitals still without five strikers!

The Vienna Capitals will face series champions EC Red Bull Salzburg tomorrow, Friday. Head coach Gerry Fleming’s team also wants to take revenge for the 3-1 home defeat they suffered against the Eisbullen at the end of September. The game in the Eisarena Salzburg starts at 7:15 p.m. As usual, sporteurope.tv will broadcast via a paid live stream.

After eight games, the Vienna Capitals are in eighth place with 12 points. The Caps left the ice victorious four times and lost just as often. Last Friday, the capital city team managed a 3-1 victory over Olimpija Ljubljana despite five injured attackers. At this point, the Slovenians were still undefeated leaders. The next day, the Caps overcame a two-goal deficit in the third period to gain a point against HC Falkensteiner Pustertal.

Wraneschitz in top form

Six different scorers have scored the Caps goals in the last two games. The Viennese’s top scorer is captain Linden Vey, who has eight points after seven games (1 goal + 7 assists). With three goals each, Leon Wallner, Carter Souch, Sam Antonitsch and Mitch Hults are the Vienna team’s top scorers. The latter left his mark on last week’s games with three points (1 goal + 2 assists). An important factor in the 3-1 win over Ljubljana was the performance of Sebastian Wraneschitz. The 23-year-old saved 29 of 30 shots against the Slovenians, which corresponds to a catch rate of exactly 97 percent. In the current season, Wraneschitz has a catch rate of 93.64 percent, the fourth best value in the win2day ICE Hockey League.

Another five strikers out

There will be no improvement in the tense personnel situation for the game against Salzburg. The attackers Jérémy Grégoire, Benjamin Lanzinger, Felix Koschek, Senna Peeters and Leon Wallner miss the guest appearance with the champions due to injury.

Statement Sam Antonitsch, attacker of the Vienna Capitals

“The last week of training was good, even if we had fewer players at our disposal, but we’re used to that now. We covered the last game against Salzburg a lot using video analysis. In the end, it was small mistakes that decided the game. We’re better prepared for tomorrow. We’re going to Salzburg and will do everything we can to win. Due to the many injuries, some players had to slip into new roles recently, but they handled it brilliantly. When you score, it’s always nice But the most important thing is that we bring home the victory.”
