Nilsson has been battling colon cancer for the past nine years. According to the platform’s emotional statement, he faced his illness with the same calm and strength that had distinguished him professionally.
The Swede was only 44 years old.

Johan Nilsson founded Elite Prospects in December 1999 when he was just 18 years old. What originally started as a small project out of pure passion for ice hockey developed into one of the most important hockey platforms in the world.
Today, fans, scouts, players, clubs and journalists use the database every day.
Colleagues say goodbye emotionally
In the statement, Nilsson is described as an extraordinary person. Particularly highlighted were his sharp mind, his enormous hockey knowledge and his friendly nature.
“Knowing Johan meant being quietly inspired by him,” the statement reads, among other things.
Family stays behind
Particularly tragic: Johan Nilsson leaves behind his wife and two small children aged two and eight.
With his death, the international hockey community loses a personality who had a lasting impact on sport in the digital sector.
