ICEHL preview: VSV is chasing the “big points” in Hungary!

The break in the win2day ICE Hockey League ends on Saturday with the game between FTC-Telekom and EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV. Less than 24 hours later, the Villachers are playing at Hydro Fehérvár AV19.

These two games are extremely important for all three teams in the fight for the top 10. Currently, ninth-placed Villach is one point ahead of tenth-placed Fehérvár and five points more than eleventh-placed Budapest. Both Villacher Adler games are also available in German club commentary on Sporteurope.tv. The Moser Medical Graz99ers will also be in action in Hungary on Sunday. The Styrians are playing at FTC-Telekom, which will be playing two matches alongside VSV within 24 hours. With a complete success, the 99ers could reduce the gap to leaders EC-KAC to one point.

On Saturday the EC iDM Heat Pumps VSV will be a guest at FTC-Telekom and can take a big step towards the pre-playoffs with a win. The ninth-placed team is currently five points ahead of the eleventh-placed Budapest – with the same number of games played. Before the Olympic break, VSV celebrated a brilliant 8:5 home win against Ljubljana, but the Villachers were only able to win one of the last ten games away from home. Budapest was crowned the Hungarian Cup winner before the break. In the final they celebrated a 4-2 win in the intra-league duel against Fehérvár. In the championship, however, they were only able to win one of the last six games. In the direct duel with Villach, FTC retained the upper hand 5:4 in their last away encounter. Previously they narrowly lost 4:5 at VSV, while the first duel of the season in Budapest went to the Adler 4:2.

Less than 24 hours later, Villach visits Hydro Fehérvár AV19, who currently occupy the last pre-playoff place as tenth in the table. However, the Hungarians’ current form is sobering: In addition to the 2-4 final defeat in the Hungarian Cup against Budapest, they have already been waiting for a win in the league for seven games. They were last successful on January 9th. Fehérvár has won one win of the season so far against Villach – in the first duel of the season. The other two matches went to the Eagles 4:1 and 3:2 after extra time. Both VSV games are also available in German club commentary on Sporteurope.tv.

Graz will be visiting Budapest on Sunday
In addition to Villach, the Moser Medical Graz99ers are also challenged in Hungary this weekend. On Sunday, the second in the table will be visiting FTC-Telekom. With a win after 60 minutes, the 99ers can move within one point of leaders EC-KAC in the table – with the same number of games played. Before the break, the Styrians celebrated three wins in a row. They suffered a 2-3 home defeat after extra time against Budapest in their first game of the season, before a 4-3 away win after overtime and a 6-1 home win in their last meeting at the beginning of January.
