AlpsHL preview: Top duel Zell vs. Sisak this Saturday!

A full round is on the agenda in the Alps Hockey League on Saturday. In the top game, defending champions EK Die Zeller Eisbären will face second-placed KHL Sisak, while leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors will host HC Gherdeina valgardena.it.

The defending champions from Zell am See are currently in fifth place in the table and are seven points behind second-placed KHL Sisak – albeit with two games fewer. On Thursday, the Pinzgauer team lost in front of their home crowd to Meran 4:5 after a shootout, while Sisak celebrated a 6:4 home win in the top game against league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors. For the Croatians it was one of four wins from the last five games, while Zell was able to win three of the last five games. In the first duel of the season in Sisak, the guests from Zell am See narrowly retained the upper hand 4:3 – after a temporary 0:3 deficit.

Red Bull Hockey Juniors want to start a new winning streak

For league leaders Red Bull Hockey Juniors, an impressive six-game winning streak ended on Thursday with a 4-6 defeat at Sisak, reducing their lead in the table over the Croatians to one point. The upcoming opponent HC Gherdeina valgardena.it was last in action last Saturday and defeated Meran 4:3 after overtime – the first success after three defeats in a row. The South Tyroleans are currently in sixth place in the table. In the first duel of the season with the Juniors, the Furies celebrated a 3-1 home win – it was also Salzburg’s last defeat before they started their winning streak.

Kitzbühel receives bottom team

14 points separate third-placed Adler Stadtwerke Kitzbühel from bottom team Hockey Unterland Cavaliers. On Saturday both teams will meet for the first time this season. Last season, Unterland had the upper hand in two of three duels. However, the South Tyroleans are currently in a crisis, with only two wins from twelve games. Kitzbühel, on the other hand, has won seven of its twelve games so far, most recently with a clear 3-0 win in Ritten on Thursday. At home, the Tyroleans are an absolute power: five games, five wins, and the maximum points total of 15 points. Unterland, on the other hand, won both wins of the season away from home.

Second game for Bregenzerwald within 24 hours

The EC Bregenzerwald will be visiting the Rittner Buam SkyAlps on Saturday after the Vorarlbergers were challenged in Cortina just 24 hours earlier. Before the game on Friday, Bregenzerwald is in tenth place with 15 points and has won the last two games. Ritten, on the other hand, has been waiting for a win for three games – most recently there was a 0:3 at home against Kitzbühel after losing twice in the doubleheader in Sisak with 4:5 after a shootout. The Buam are facing Bregenzerwald for the first time this season. Last season Ritten won two out of three matches.

Asiago welcomes Vipiteno for a neighborhood duel in the table

There is a neighborhood duel in the table between HC Migross Asiago and the Wipptal Broncos Weihenstephan. Asiago is in seventh place with 17 points, followed by Vipiteno with 15 points. On Thursday, the Broncos lost at home to Jesenice 3-4 after a shootout – their third defeat in a row. Asiago, on the other hand, celebrated a 4-1 away win at Unterland on Wednesday, their third success from their last five games. On Saturday both teams will face each other for the first time this season.

Cortina vs. Jesenice: weak teams in a direct duel

In the sixth game of the day, SG Cortina Hafro and HDD Jesenice meet. Both teams are currently out of form and are ranked 12th (SGC) and 9th (JES). Last Saturday, Cortina was able to end a four-game losing streak with a 3-2 home win against Vipiteno. Jesenice also won against Sterzing (4:3/SO) on Thursday – the first success after two defeats.
